Main Railways in Lhasa
Qinghai-Tibet railway, one of the four major projects in the new century of China, is a landmark project to implement the strategy of western development. The Qinghai-Tibet railway starts from Xining of Qinghai in the east, ends in Lhasa, with a length of 1956 kilometers. It is the highest and longest plateau railway in the world. On July 1, 2006, the railway was officially opened to traffic. Besides the famous Qinghai-Tibet railway, there are also Sichuan-Tibet railway, Lhasa-Shigatse railway and other railways passing through Lhasa.
