Tibet Travel Visa for Indian Citizens
Compared other international tourists, the Indian citizens or Indian passport holders have the priority to obtain Tibet Visa(known as Tibet Travel Permit, Tibet Permit, Tibet Entry Permit). Of course, it is easy to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit. Generally, the Indian citizens or Indian passport holders can be divided into three types as follows:
- The ordinary Indian citizens: they travel to the places other than Ngari Prefecture(Mt. Kailash).
- Indian pilgrims: they come to Tibet mainly for pilgrimage around Mt. Kailash and Lake Manasarovar.
- American Indian with US passports: they will not be regarded as a pilgrim, even if they go to Mt. Kailash for pilgrimage.
Note: For the second type, Indian travelers who want to travel to Mt. Kailash for pilgrimage or go via Ali prefecture, even if not for religious purposes, they will be treated as pilgrims.
How to Get Tibet Travel Visas for Ordinary Indian Citizens
For the ordinary Indian citizens who don’t plan to Ngari Prefecture, they can only email photocopies of their passport and Chinese visas 20 days in advance before the date they plan to enter into Tibet. We will do the rest of the Tibet Travel Permit application procedures according to the related regulations.
In order to enter into Tibet, many Indian citizens choose to enter mainland China first and get to Lhasa by train or plane. For those people, a group tourist visa is required from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Therefore, we need scanned copies of their passports before traveling to Tibet. How to Get Tibet Visas for Indian Pilgrims
Those Indian travelers who plan to travel to Mt. Kailash and Manasarovar for pilgrimage or go through Nagri Prefecture, even if not for religious purposes, they are treated as pilgrims. It is not easy to get a Tibet Permit for those pilgrims and the procedures are complicated. Tibet Visa for pilgrims shall be verified and issued by the Foreign Affairs Office of TAR, Tibet Military Region, Armed Police Tibet Frontier Corps and the Department of Public Security of TAR.
There are only two organizations who have the right to authorize Indian pilgrimage tour in Tibet, namely, Foreign Affairs Office of TAR(governmental) and Pilgrim Center(non-governmental). However, people can book their Mt. Kailash Tour through Nepal or the Indian Travel Agencies, which are authorized by Pilgrim Center and Foreign Affairs Office of TAR.

How to Get Tibet Visas for American Indian with US Passports
Those people who are American Indian with US passports will not be regarded as a pilgrim, even if they go to Mt. Kailash for pilgrimage.
