Dinggye County Overview

Dinggye County is a county of Shigatse in Tibet Autonomous Region. It is located in the southern part of Shigatse and the north of Himalayas. It is one of the four counties that comprise Qomolangma National Nature Preserve. Dinggye County is a wetland kingdom due to its abundant original wetland. Climate in Dinggye County

Dinggye County belongs to inland plateau dry climate. It has a moderate climate and abundant rainfall in summer and autumn. With the sufficient sunshine, large range of temperature and high wind, the climate is abominable here. The annual average temperature is 2 ℃. The coldest month is January of -8 ℃ and the average minimum temperature is -27 ℃. The warmest month is July of 12 ℃ and the extreme maximum temperature is 18 ℃. The annual precipitation is 236.2 millimeters and more than 85% concentrated in mid June to early September. Frost free period of is about 100 days. It has abundant wind resources, with an average wind speed of 18~20 meters / sec; it can be fully satisfied for large, medium and small wind power generation work.

Attractions:

  • Duobuzhacuo(多布扎错): it is the second largest lake in the Mount Qomolangma area. The swampland  which has been covered with green grass for half a year around the lake is the habitat of black-necked cranes. This wetland breeds flocks of birds such as bar-headed goose(斑头雁) and black-necked crane(黑颈鹤), so it’s also the famous bird paradise in Shigatse.
  • Colorful Desert(五彩沙漠): from the Zhongba County to the Payang Town, tourists can see sand dune which shows a colorful light in the sunshine on both sides of the road. The golden desert, the red mountain and some green vegetation make up an extraordinary view.

Travel Tips:

1.Due to its unique climate, the best time to travel is from February to June.

2.The sun in Tibet is fierce! Bring a good, broad spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF factor and a high SPF lip sunscreen to protect your lips too. 

3.Because of the high altitudes climatic conditions of Tibet, visitors should pay attention to the prevention and cure of the syndromes including headache, dizziness, flustered, shortness of breath, the plateau response, especially people who have chronic respiratory disease or cardiovascular disease.
