The Kunlun mountain range cuts across the whole of Qinghai. It is from here that the great rivers of East Asia are sourced. The Kunlun Mountain Pass is the only route between Qinghai and Tibet. At its highest point, it is 4,767 metres above sea level. A large stone marks the highest point with the words “Kunlun Pass” and “Kunlun Sacred stone” written in Chinese.
