The food along the Mount Kailash's trekking adventure is very essential since trekking is an activity requires a lot of energy and strength. And our tourists had better bring some food and warm water. And one day's food is enough as there will be some tents selling goods and you can replenish on the route. As for the supplies, you would not have many choices to choose as some tents only sell instant noodle and yak butter tea.
What to Eat Near Mount Kailash
Under the influence of bad weather, the food species in western Tibet is very limited. In particular, vegetables and fruits are mostly imported from other places. As a result, food in Ngari is much more expensive than expected. Fortunately, restaurants can still be found in most towns and counties in this remote area. Tibetan food, Sichuan cuisine and Xinjiang cuisine are served in the restaurant. However, on a trip to the Mount Kailash or further to Kashgar, in most of the time, the food is fried rice, noodles and simple dishes.
Tsampa (糌粑)
Zanba/Tsampa is one of the traditional staple food of Tibetan herdsmen. In fact, it is the highland barley fried noodles, and is the staple food that Tibetan people must eat every day. Zanba is the flour ground from highland barley. When eating, mix the highland barley flour with yak butter tea, milk residue and sugar evenly, then knead into a ball with your hands. It is not only convenient to eat, rich in nutrition, high heat, very suitable for stopping hunger and resisting cold, but also easy to carry and storage. When visiting a Tibetan family, the host will certainly serve the fragrant buttered tea and highland barley fried noodles.
Buttered Tea (酥油茶)
It is the main drink of Tibet. In the winter, you can dispel cold. If you feel starved, you can satisfy your hunger; if you are sleepy, buttered tea can assist you in relieve from fatigue. Hospitable Tibetans often entertain guests with this tea, so you are suggested not refusing them, otherwise you are considered impolite.
Tibetan Noodle (藏面)
Tibetan noodles are pressed in advance with plateau wheat, a specialty of Tibet, cooked and dried for stand-by.When eating, put it into the yak meat soup pot until the noodles hot. Put the cooked Tibetan noodles into a bowl, fill it with delicious beef soup, sprinkle some diced beef. You can also add Tibetan hot sauce according to your taste.

What to Eat During Mount Kailash Trekking
There is no restaurant but simple teahouse on the way of trekking. The only places to get meals (breakfast and dinner) are the guesthouses you stay overnight, so when you order your breakfast at the guesthouse, better order good and sufficiently, because the teahouses on the way only has hot tea and instant noodles available. When you are in Darchen, buy some dry nuts, chocolate and fruits in your small backpack, those foods that high of heat can quickly energize you up.
