About Hipparion Ruins in Biru County, Nagqu

In 1975, Chinese Academy of Sciences expedition unearthed Hipparion fossil in Xiaquka basin(夏曲卡盆地) and Bulong basin(布龙盆地). Hipparion was a subtropical and tropical mammal and lived in 3 million ~ 10 million years ago. Its habitat or biome would be that of non-forested, grassy plains, shortgrass prairie or steppes. According to the research, At that time, Biru County had numerous rivers and lakes, lush forests and pleasant climate.  

Attraction Transportation: 

Visitors can take long-distance bus or choose self-driving from Xiaqu Village Biru County. Please pay attention to weather conditions. In the rainy season (July & August), cars often get struck in the mud and delays happen frequently.
