Basic Information of Mendong Monastery
Mendong Monastery(门东寺)is located in Mendong Village(门东村), Coqen Town(门东村), Coqen County(措勤镇), Ngari Prefecture(阿里地区), Tibet Autonomous Region, 2 kilometers north of the county seat, which was first built in the nineteenth century. Mendong Monastery covers an area of 14800square meters, with the building area of 2118 square meters. Under the support of the party’s religious freedom policy, the monastery was rebuilt in 1984 and after two large-scale expansions. There are 18 monks and 1,100 cultural relics now in the monastery, including 42 important cultural relics in the monastery. It is a Kagyur sect(嘎举派)monastery.
Attraction Transportation
Naqu District 206 line runs through the Coqen County. There are Xinjiang Tibet highway in the south and the District Lane 301 line in the north. The highway traffic system is perfect; visitors can choose self-driving tour in Coqen County. There are 724.2 km from Ngari to Coqen County and it will spend 17 hours for driving. Tourist can travel to Ngari by air firstly and then transfer to Coqen County by long-distance bus, which is the major choice.
