About Labuqi Monastery in Tingri County, Shigatse
According to legend, this iron chain bridge over the Xiongqoi River in Namling County was built with funds collected by Tongdong Gyaibo(唐东杰布) through performances. Tongdong Gyaibo was the founder of Tibetan Opera. The South and North bridgehead are made of bluestone; surface of the wall and corners are regular; the whole structure of Xianghe Chain Bridge is reasonable, durable and firm. The bridge span is 55.7 meters and the chain drop was half-moon shape. The cross section of the bridge was “U” shape with 0.9 meters wide and 0.9 to 1.3 meters high. The tough and durable forging ways of the cable chain and iron bolt plate reflect the high level of metal processing in Tibet at that time. Xianghe Chain Bridge provides important information for people to learn the development of Tibet bridge. It was listed as cultural relics protection unit in 1996.
Xianghe Chain Bridge is the most complete preserved ancient bridge so far. Built in Fifteenth Century, it was an important transportation hub in the past. Traveling here, you will enjoy the old style of the ancient bridge.

Visitors can take long-distance bus or choose self-driving from Namling County seat. Please pay attention to weather conditions. In the rainy season (July & August), cars often get struck in the mud and delays happen frequently.
