About Dagejia Pohutu Geyser in Ngamring County, Shigatse

Dagejia Pohutu Geyser is located in the south of Gandise Range(冈底斯山). It is the largest intermittent geyser in China. Dagejia Pohutu Geyser doesn’t have fixed effusive stage and diapause. The duration of each eruption is not consistent. Sometimes it’s longer than 10 minutes; sometimes just a short moment and disappear in a flash. The scene of the fountain eruption is really spectacular.The geyser is calm sometimes and angry other times. Before eruption, the water column is rising and  falling together. After repeating several times, suddenly a loud noise, the white water column whith a diameter of 2 meters oblique into the sky. Its eruptions were spectacular, blasting jets of water up to 200 m in the air. In the twinkling of an eye, the water column retracts into the spring mouth and everything returns to calmness. 

As a fairly rare phenomenon, the formation of geysers is due to particular hydrogeological conditions that exist in only a few places on Earth. Even a small geyser is an amazing phenomenon which can attracts millions of visitors come here.

Attraction Transportation: 

Visitors can take long-distance bus or choose self-driving from Ngamring County and arrived at Gandise Range. Dagejia Pohutu Geyser is in the south of this range. What’s more, please pay attention to weather conditions. In the rainy season (July & August), cars often get struck in the mud and delays happen frequently.
