It is understood that from now until the end of August, the Lhasa People’s Hospital will provide free treatment for all cataract patients in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Patients with cataract eye disease can go directly to the Lhasa People’s Hospital Outpatient Center for treatment.
78-year-old Namgang comes from Xoimai Township in Nyemo County, Lhasa, Tibet. She has had difficulty in moving around due to illness for many years. Her favorite thing is to sit in front of the door in a wheelchair to look out at the scenery. However, in the past year or so, Namgang has gradually felt her vision becoming more and more blurred, and has slowly been losing her eyesight.
On April 15, guided by her daughter, Namgang received free cataract surgery at Lhasa People’s Hospital. The day after the operation, Namgang found that she could see once more after taking off the postoperative eye mask.
According to the chief surgeon and ophthalmologist Norbu Tsering, the surgery is usually completed within 20 minutes depending on each patient’s physical differences as well as the severity of the eye disease. Due to the high altitude and strong light, people need to pay more attention to their eye health in their daily lives.
