About Chimpu Meditation Center
Chimpu Meditation Center is the most famous place of Tibetan Buddhism. Located on the north bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River, with an elevation of 4,300 meters. In Tibetan language, “Qing(青)” means Qing family(青氏家族) here, “Pu(朴)” means the upper part of the gully.

At the end of the Qianhong Period(前弘期) of Tibetan Buddhism, many of the volumes of scriptures were buried here. Therefore, Chimpu Meditation Center and Sangye temple(桑耶寺) both have a great reputation, and the Tibetans think that if you go to Sangye temple(桑耶寺) but not to Chimpu Meditation Center, is equal not having been to Sangye. According to legend, there were 108 Buddhist caves in the mountains of the Chimpu Meditation Center.

Now, there are still many people coming from far, who are practicing here, which is just like a small village. Many Tibetans and even tourists see it as a holy place because of these gymnosophists.
