Doilungdêqên District is a district in Lhasa prefecture-level city, north-west of the main center of Chengguan, Tibet. With the area of 2682 square kilometers, and the cultivated land area is 96 thousand mu, it is largely agricultural or pastoral, but contains the western suburbs of the city of Lhasa. Doilungdeqen is said to mean “valley of bliss” in Tibetan.
Highlights of Doilungdeqen District
- Tsurphu Monastery(楚布寺): The best-known landmark of Doilungdeqen district. It is a gompa which serves as the traditional seat of the Karmapa, the head of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
- Sangmu Folk Custom Village(桑木民俗自然村): the villagers here retain the traditional way of life in rural area of Lhasa and it’s a good place to enjoy the rural scenery, the taste of rice farmers, horse riding, fishing and the Tibetan opera.
- Xiongbalaqu Holy Water(雄巴拉曲神水): the water flows out from the ground and forms two ponds and the sound of Bell and running water can be heard everywhere.
- Qiusang Hot Spring(邱桑温泉): a resort providing therapeutic baths. The spring water is clear and transparent, containing sulfur, realgar, and other minerals which has certain curative effect on the diseases of skin diseases, rheumatism, arthritis, stomach disease, hypertension etc..
- Maxiang Unconformity Contact Nature Reserve(马乡不整合接触自然保护区): covering an area of about 850 hectares. Unconformity and layered strata’s combination is magnificent and has geology teaching, scientific research, tourism and nature conservation value.
