Lhasa People’s Hospital
Lhasa People’s Hospital (拉萨市人民医院) is a comprehensive tertiary Grade A hospital located in Lhasa (拉萨市), offering a range of medical services, including medical treatment, teaching, research, emergency care, healthcare, rehabilitation, and health checkups. Established in 1959 amid the celebrations of Tibet’s democratic reform, it was originally founded as a military-controlled outpatient department under the Lhasa Military Control Committee. In 1962, it was officially renamed Lhasa People’s Hospital (拉萨市人民医院). Today, the hospital spans 119.7 acres, with a medical building area of 50,000 square meters and is staffed by 605 medical professionals. It has 430 beds as per its legal staffing requirements.
The hospital is renowned for its advanced medical equipment and extensive specialty services. It is a center for highland disease treatment, particularly for severe cases of altitude sickness, and it offers services in areas like gynecology, pediatrics, cardiology, orthopedics, and neurology. Additionally, the hospital is equipped with imported medical devices such as a 3.0T MRI, 128-slice spiral CT scanner, color ultrasound, ventilators, and anesthesia machines, among others.

First Liver Transplant in Tibet: On December 14, 2002, under the leadership of Tang Jinhai (唐金海), the hospital successfully performed the first-ever liver transplant in Tibet, marking a milestone in high-altitude organ transplantation.

Affiliation with Tibet University: On September 28, 2007, the hospital was officially named a non-direct affiliated hospital of Tibet University (西藏大学).

Transition to Tertiary Grade B: On October 18, 2013, the hospital passed the Tibet Autonomous Region Health Department’s expert evaluation and was granted the Grade B Tertiary Hospital status, marking a significant leap in its development.

Achieving Tertiary Grade A Status: On November 10, 2017, the hospital achieved the prestigious Tertiary Grade A (三级甲等) status, becoming the first Grade A Tertiary hospital in Lhasa and representing a major milestone in improving healthcare services for the region.
