About Zhatong Temple
Zhatong Temple is located on the north of Zhatong Village(扎同村) in Cona County, Shannan. The temple is built on the high terrace of Luoqu(洛曲岸), at an elevation of 3,700 meters. Zhatong Temple, known as “Zhaxi Tongmai Temple(扎西通麦寺)”, was founded by Quji Zhagua(曲吉扎瓜) in 1489. The earthquake caused some damage to the temple, and during the “Great Cultural Revolution” only Dukang Hall(杜康大殿) was remained.
The main building is located in the central part of the walls, which consists of courtyards and halls. The area of the courtyard is about 600 square meters, which is a place for the temple to hold a major religious ceremony or religious festival. The hall is mainly composed of porches, dukang(杜康), Buddhist temple, gongkang(贡康) and lakang(拉康). The lower buildings from south to north, there are porches, dukang, gongkang, Buddhist temple and so on.
