About Qiangmu Grottoes
Located in the south of Qiamu Village(恰姆村) of Qiongzi Town(琼孜乡), Qiangmu Grottoes borders with Guomei Mountain(果美山) in the middle of the Himalayas.The grottoes are distributed in the north and south of the leaf to the left bank, which are about 863 meters long and about 65 meters wide.According ti the rough statistics, , there are about 105 caves among the whole group.
History Research
Cultural Relics Census Team was the first team to come to visit Qiangmu Grottoes in August 2008. His preliminary investigation was published in the first major new discovery of the national cultural heritage survey, edited by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in 2008.On September 28, 2009, the people’s Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region published the “Qiangmu Grottoes” as the fifth batch of cultural relics protection units in the Tibet Autonomous Region, based on its important value. The experts judged that the Qiangmu Grottoes should be excavated in the 11th century, belonging to the early Buddhist murals in Tibet.According to local records, there were hundreds of temples, castles and towers in the seemingly enclosed plateau basin.
