About Chamuqin Ancient Tomb Group
Chamuqin Ancient Tomb Group（查木钦古墓群）is located in Chamuqin Village（查木钦村）, Quma Township（曲玛乡）, Lhatse County（拉孜县）, Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region with an altitude of about 4,000 meters. The tomb group belongs to Zanpu Langdama family（赞普——朗达玛家族）, the descendant of the last regime of Tubo Fifth Dynasty（吐蕃五朝）, which is with very large scale. The discovery of tombs, especially the stone lions and tombstones, is an important material to study the burial system of ancient Tibet. In 1996, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Tibet autonomous region. In May 2006, it was designated as the national key cultural relic protection unit.
The Construction of Chamuqin Ancient Tomb Group
Located in the north bank of the Brahmaputra River, Chamuqin Ancient Tomb Group concludes a total of 135 tombs and 28 sacrifice pits. The tomb group is divided by a gully into A and B two zones. A zone in the west with a total of 101 tombs, a sacrifice pit, large area of housing sites, stone lions, stone monuments, and so on, which covers an area of 646000 square meters. Area B is located in the east, with a total of 34 tombs, a small number of graves and ruins, covering an area of nearly 270,000 square meters.
The Historic and Cultural Value of Chamuqin Ancient Tomb Group
Chamuqin Ancient Tomb Group is very spectacular, with the tall tomb horses which looks like a giant base, located in the mountains. It is also the second largest tombs in ancient Tibet which has far-reaching significance to the study of the ancient political history, culture and folk customs of Tubo Regime.
Attraction Transportation
There is only one train running through Lhatse which passes over 253 kilometers for the ticket fee of 40RMB. It takes about 3 hours by a car.
