About Juela Temple
Juela Temple is located in Cona County, Shannan, lying about 400 meters of the Juela Town seat, on the northeast of the county seat, with an elevation of 3,800 meters. Juela Temple, the whole name is “Juela Tudan Quguo Erlie Xieda Jilin temple(觉拉土丹曲果尔列谢达吉林寺)”. It was founded by Jiayang Danzeng Zhaba(甲央·丹增扎巴) and Youzhan Chilie Langjie(游占赤列朗杰) in 1447 .
The temple rules are strict, forbidding the monks to work in production, also forbidding them to marry. The subordinate sub-temple has Xiwu temple(西吾寺), Kada temple(卡达寺), a nun temple, and a Buddhist cave. The original building was demolished in 1962, and the existing Dukang hall(杜康大殿) was preserved by the use of a grain depot.
