Riwoqe Deer National Nature Reserve(类乌齐国家级自然保护区)is located in Riwoqe County(类乌齐县), the north of eastern Chamdo District(昌都地区), Tibet autonomous region, with a total area of 120,614.6 hectares. Riwoqe Deer National Nature Reserve in Tibet was established in 1993 and promoted to national nature reserve in 2005. It mainly protects the deer and its living environment, belonging to the wild animal type nature reserve with the geographical coordinates for longitude 95 ° 48 ‘~ 96 ° 30’ 13 ‘, north latitude 31 ° ~ 31 ° 31 ‘.

Natural vegetation: the natural vegetation here can be divided into 6 vegetation groups, 9 vegetation types and 22 groups. The vegetation type is diverse and complete. Here the natural landscape is beautiful with the rich species, which has the extremely high protection value.
Forest vegetation: there is a forestland of 8716.4 hectares. The forest vegetation is mainly distributed in the lower elevations on the east and the west bank of Ziqu River(紫曲河). The main groups are the west Sichuan spruce and the big fruit cypress. The west Sichuan spruce forest is located in the shady-slope and the half shaded slope. Large fruit cypress is distributed in the sunny slope and the half-sunny slope.

Riwoqe Deer National Nature Reserve mainly protects the deer and its living environment, belonging to the wild animal type nature reserve. According to the preliminary statistics, there are 652 species of higher plants in the protected area of 73 families. There are 180 vertebrates, belonging to class 4, 13, 47 families. There are 10 types of protected wild animals in the reserve with 34 kinds of wild animals.
The Living Condition of Riwoqe Deer
Riwoqe Deer are mainly inhabited in the upper retama bushland areas of the forest with an altitude between 3500 and 5000 meters. In winter, they distributes in the sunny slope and the wind-sheltered valley; which in summer, they would like to live in forest of high mountain; during the spring and autumn period, it is a pleasure to feed and inhabit the edge of the forest and open spaces.

How to Get to Qamdo Riwoqe County
Air
Located in the Bangda Grassland, the Chamdo Bangda Airport is the world’s highest airport and has the longest runway. It is 136 kilometers (84.5 miles) from Chamdo County. As the first lateral airport in Tibet, Chamdo Bangda Airport started to be built in 1993 and finished in October, 1994. At present, it has air routes to/from domestic cities including Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Lhasa, Tianjin, Xian, and Xining; meanwhile, flights to/from Nepal are also operated at this airport.

Bus
The Prefecture is over 1,200 kilometers (746 miles) from Chengdu and over 1,100 kilometers (684 miles) from Lhasa. Every week at least three buses travel between Qamdo and the two cities. Apart from regular buses, the tourist bureau sometimes sends special buses to Lhasa for visitors. It usually takes 10 days from Lhasa to visit Riwoqe.
