Tongpu Township of Jomda County in Chamdo
Tongpu Township is situated in the central part of Jomda County (江达县), Chamdo (昌都市), Tibet Autonomous Region (西藏自治区). It borders Bolo Township (波罗乡) to the east, Jomda Town (江达镇) to the south, Dêrdoin Township (德登乡) to the west, and Gangtuo Town (岗托镇) to the north. Covering a total area of 979.70 square kilometers, the township had a registered population of 8,223 people as of the end of 2019.
Administrative History

1959: Tongpu Township was established.

1970: The township was reorganized into a commune.

1984: The commune system was abolished, and the township was restored.

Before 1988: Tongpu Township was part of Tongpu District (同普区).

1988: After the merger of districts and townships, Tongpu Township was retained as one of the townships under Jomda County.
As of June 2020, Tongpu Township governs nine administrative villages.

Geographical Features
Tongpu Township is located at an average altitude of 3,500 meters. The township is characterized by steep cliffs and towering peaks, with a canyon that stretches for about 5 kilometers. The area is traversed by the multi-curve river that flows into the Jinsha River (金沙江), adding to its scenic charm.
Climate
Tongpu Township experiences a plateau semi-arid warm climate. The temperature ranges from a low of -15°C to a high of 30°C, depending on the season. The area is known for its dry conditions, but the rich natural beauty more than makes up for the challenges posed by the weather.

Economy
The economy of Tongpu Township is primarily based on a combination of agriculture and livestock farming.
In 2011, the township’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was 38.9 million RMB, and the average per capita income for farmers and herders was 3,675 RMB. By 2019, the township had three supermarkets or general stores with a floor area of over 50 square meters.
Agriculture and Livestock
Tongpu Township’s agricultural activities include the cultivation of barley, peas, potatoes, wheat, and other crops. The area is also heavily dependent on animal husbandry, raising yak, goats, sheep, and horses. In 2011, the township had a total of 94.4 million mu (approximately 62,933 hectares) of grassland and 11,077 mu (7,385 hectares) of arable land.

Transportation
By the end of 2011, all nine villages in Tongpu Township were connected by roads, with 27 of the 29 natural villages accessible by vehicle. The township is conveniently located along the 317 National Highway (317国道), providing vital connectivity to the rest of the region.
Education and Healthcare

Education: By the end of 2011, Tongpu Township had a central school with 1 main campus and four teaching points, providing education to local children.

Healthcare: The township has a local health clinic that provides basic healthcare services. The New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme (新型农村合作医疗) achieved 100% participation among local residents by the end of 2011.
Social Security and Welfare

Social Security: As of the end of 2011, 3,800 residents were enrolled in the New Rural Social Pension Insurance (新型农村社会养老保险), achieving an enrollment rate of 85%.
Recognition and Honors
In February 2022, Tongpu Township was included in the list of candidates for the 2021 Tibet Autonomous Region Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Township, a recognition for its efforts in promoting environmental sustainability and ecological balance.
