About Gangpo Ri
Gangpo Ri is a high mountain in Tsetang(泽当镇) with an altitude of 4,130 meters. What’s more, the Monkey Cave is famous in the mountain where the origin begins. It is near the summit near the mountain and you can ask local people where exactly it is when you come closer.
History and Development of Gangpo Ri
It is said to be the original place of Tibetan people where Chenresig in the form of a monkey mated with demoness Sinmo to produce the first Tibetan man.
Main Attractions- Monkey Cave and Festival Celebration
You can climb about 550 meters to the Monkey Cave from the Sang-ngag Zimche Nunnery. It normally takes about two hours and you should be well-prepared in advance. The route is also part of a pilgrim route for local people. Especially on Saga Dawa Festival, there are many people joining the route for celebration.
Attraction Transportation
The whole county highway is in the middle of the road, formed the highway traffic network which centered with Tsedang Town, connecting the 12 counties of Lhoka Prefecture.It is the main transport hub of the south of Tibet.
