Travel to Everest Base Camp in Winter Time
The winter in Tibet lasts from December to February the following year. Heavy snow in this season can make it difficult to walk, especially to remote or high altitude areas. However, due to high altitude and strong sunshine, the temperature is not as intolerable as you imagine. Winter is a good season for low-cost tourists to visit Tibet. Preparation of Travelling to Everest Base Camp
1. Obtain the required travel documents in advance. Travelling to Everest base camp, foreign tourists need to apply for the Tibet Travel permit, the Alien’s Travel permit and the military permit.
2. Bring altitude sickness medicine or oxygen to the low-oxygen Everest area. The elderly or tourists in poor health should undergo a medical examination before going to the Everest base camp.
3. Because of large temperature difference between daytime and night, you should keep yourself warm. Visitors should prepare some winter jackets, down jackets, gloves, hats and sleeping bags. Don’t let yourself catch a cold, which could be dangerous in Tibet.
4. Bring some necessities, such as lipstick (for dry weather), sun hat(for bad weather), sunglasses (for strong sunlight or snow blindness), and other daily medicines for cold or stomachache, etc. Don’t expose your skin to the sun, which can cause sunburn.
5. Know the road and weather conditions of Everest base camp in advance, so as not to encounter bad weather when departure.
6. As for winter accommodation, tents at Everest base camp will be dismantled in accordance with local regulations. But visitors can choose to spend the night at the Rongbuk temple at the foot of Mount Everest, or to go to Tingri County, where there are hotels, hostels and family inns you can choose.
