Transportation in Ngari is not as that convenient as Lhasa. Highway transport is the main transport in Ngari. Ngari borders Nepal and India in the west, which makes it very convenient for pilgrims from Nepal, India to traveling to Ngari.
How to Get to Ngari
Outer transportation in Ngari mainly relies on highway transport. However, airlines are also available for some destinations. You may also arrive in Lhasa first and then take a plane from Lhasa to Ngari Gunsa Airport.
By Air
Ngari Gunsa Airport, located in Gunsa Township of Gar County, 45 kilometers southwest of Shiquanhe Town in the Ngari Prefecture of Tibet, is another important air passage into and out of Tibet after Lhasa Gonggar Airport, Qamdo Bangda Airport, Nyingchi Mainling Airport. It is the third highest airport in the world, and provides flights to and from Lhasa, Chengdu, Xi’an, Urumqi, Kashgar.

Highway transport is the main transport in Ngari. There are four roads leading to Ngari: Xinjiang-Tibet Highway, northern road, southern road and the Amdo-Shiquanhe road. If tourists would like to get to Ngari by long-distance bus, there are two roads head to Ngari from Lhasa: Northern Road(1,760km), Southern Road(1,190km). And it's the most economical and common way for tourists to get into Ngari.
How to Get Around Nagri
The main transportation inside Shiquanhe town is taxi. And the price is normally 5-10 yuan if you visit within the downtown. The regular bus between Burang County and Shiquanhe departs only in the morning, which will take about 6 to 8 hours and cost 180 yuan.
By City Bus
In 2012, 3 lines of 6 city buses were put into operation in Shiquanhe Town of Ngari. Since then, it has been more convenient for people to travel in the urban area.
By Taxi
The main transportation within Shiquanhe town is taxi, and the price is normally 5-10 yuan if you visit within the downtown.
By Car Rental
Car rental is the most convenient way to travel in Ngari. There are two roads from Lhasa to Ngari, Northern Road(1,760km), Southern Road(1,190km). There are more buses on the Northern Road and almost only tourist buses on the Southern Road. The price of the car rental is calculated according to the whole route. The reference price for the charter from Lhasa to Ngari is as follows:
Toyota: 4500 yuan
SUV: 800-100 yuan
Bus: 400-500 yuan
