Brief Introduction of Nara Yumco Lake

Nara Yumco is a natural lake that covers a surface area of 22 square kilometers, which has an average depth of 14 meters. Nara Yumco boasts a total water volume of 0.29 cubic kilometers, and has a total shore line of 26 kilometers. The lake, which sits at an elevation of 4,749 meters, drains a watershed that covers 123 square kilometers and has a residence time of 3,152 days (9 years). It is the largest lake in Cona County which is 180 kilometers from Tsedang and 36 kilometers from the Cona county seat. In Tibetan language, “Nara Yumco” means “the front of the lake”.

Features and Attractions of Nara Yumco Lake

Nara Yumco Lake in winter will freeze with the ice which is more than a dozen centimeters thick. Traveling across the aquamarine lake, visitors can get to a central island to play. There is a deep hole on the lake island, which can hold three or four people in it to rest. It is said that now, the hole is still here on the island. As the weather gradually warm, every April, the lake ice melts gradually, and the lake looks just like a blue mirror. As long as visitors travel to Nara Yumco Lake, they can’t help staying here as long as they can, especially having a photograph taken with “her”!

The highway traffic system is perfect; visitors can choose self-driving tour in Cona County, and then take a shuttled bus to Nara Yumco Lake. The closest airport is Lhasa Gonggar Airport about 300 km from Cona County and the closest railway station is Tsonag Railway Station. Tourist can also travel by train or air firstly and then transfer to long-distance bus or self-driving to Nara Yumco Lake which is the major choice.
