About Ancient Sea-buckthorn Forest in Cona County, Lhoka
 
2,000 mu of natural Sea Buckthorn forest with 15 meters high grows along the Niangmu river valley in Cona County of Lhoka Prefecture, with 800 mu of them owning thousands of years’ history. Sea Buckthorn(Hippophae rhamnoides) is a kind of fruit tree with high ecological and economic value. It’s root, stem, leaf, and fruit can be used as medicinal materials. Sea Buckthorn is tolerant of salt in the air and soil, but demand full sunlight for good growth and do not tolerate shady conditions near larger trees. They are viewed as the sand-fixing plants for their strong tillers characters.
In ancient time, Tibetans started to protect the Sea Buckthorn forest, which had been called as “La xin”(the plants with souls in Tibetan). At present, government also hired some local people to protect this millennium old forest.

Visitors can take long-distance bus or choose self-driving along the S202 Road.

Don’t climb Ancient Sea-buckthorn trees and pick fruits.
Due to the strong UV and dry air, tourists can drink enough water and bring sunglasses, gloves and high-quality sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher with themselves to avoid any direct exposure to the sun.
