About Banbar Monastery
Banbar Monastery(边坝寺)is a Tibetan Buddhism Gelug monastery in Xialin Village(夏林村), Banbar Town(边坝镇), Banbar County(边坝县), Chamdo Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region. The grand monastery was built in 1296 of Yuan dynasty by Zhuogun Qujia Paba(卓滚·曲加帕巴). It is the root of Telaga Warna(三色湖)and the whole Banbar culture. It is one of the most famous scenic spots in Telaga Warna as well as the well-known monastery.
Banbar Monastery is a famous monastery in the Chamdo district because of the reincarnation of the living Buddha. It was shut down during the Cultural Revolution period, but the buildings and cultural relics were well protected. Banbar Monastery in 1983 was approved by the autonomous region people’s government to open again. At present the relatively well-preserved monastery covers an area of 14320 ㎡, with the construction area of 99057 ㎡, which belongs to the autonomous region level cultural relics units.
Attraction Transportation
Tourist can travel to Lhasa by air or train firstly and then transfer to Banbar County by long-distance bus, which is the major choice. And you can transfer from Qamdo to Banbar County. There is no need for you to worry about the transportation.
