East Tibet
With unique and fascinating scenery, East Tibet is very different from other regions in Tibet. It mainly includes Qamdo Prefecture and the eastern area of Nyingchi Prefecture(Zayu County, Medog County, Bome County). The total area is 226,175 square kilometers. The eastern region of Tibet is located in the area of Hengduan Mountains and the three rivers (Jinsha River, Lancang River and Nu river), sitting at the junction of Tibet and Sichuan, Qinghai and Yunnan, which is the essential place of Sichuan-Tibet highway and Yunnan-Tibet highway, and also the important place of “Tea-horse Ancient Road”. It offers a variety of spectacular landscapes including subtropical low-lying jungles, high grasslands, deep gorges, thick forests, glaciated snow-capped Himalayan peaks, etc.
