About Geju Monastery
Geju Monastery is located in the south of the Qiema Village(切玛村) in the lower Yadong Town(下亚东乡). Lying on the middle of the Naiduila hill(乃堆拉), 15 kilometers from the county of Yadong, and 3160 meters above sea level. It was founded in 1736 by the monk, Danzhu Wancang Baada(丹珠旺仓巴阿达). Covering an area of 1968 square meters, the temple echoes Bhutan and India far away. It is a unique temple of the Geju Sect(嘎举派). There are Thangka of Buddha Sakyamuni, embroidery, and a wooden plaque “Dafang Guangming(大放光明)” which belonged to Tibet’s first anti-British war. The temple located in the border witnessed the history of British imperialism invaded Tibet.
