Dongfeng Linka is located in the northeast of the city of Xigaze, facing the Yaluzangbo river in the north and Nianchu river(年楚河) in the east, lying in the intersection of Yajiang(雅江) and the Nianchu river.
History of Dongfeng Linka
The south of Linka is planned to cover an area of about 220 mu(亩). This place was firstly built by Danbai Nima(丹白尼玛) in Qing dynasty, formerly known as Deji Hall(德吉经堂), due to the Emperor Daoguang(道光皇帝) of Qing dynasty presented this place with a gold plaques “GongjueLin Palace(贡觉林宫)” written in Tibetan, Han, Mongolian, Manchu languages, then renamed as “GongjueLin Palace”(贡觉林宫). In front of the Jiande Qingge Sanpo Zhang Palace(建德庆格桑颇章宫) is the Summer Palace of Banshen(班神), there are many trees, tigers, leopards and other animals in the palace. There would hold sacrificial activities in August of the Tibetan calendar annually. The palace was destroyed by the flood of the river Nianchu in 1954. Through recent years’ decoration, GongjueLin Palace was renamed as “Dongfeng linka(东风林卡)”, working as a People’s Park in Shigatse.
Dongfeng Linka is divided into four scenic spots:
1. Wetland scenic spot(湿地景区):
Due to the lack of management for years, the water quality is poor and the garbage is piled up inside the park. Therefore, it needs to clean up and strengthen the management, then on this basis, this place can be expanded to build a wetland scenic spot.
2. Flower display area
Xigaze is located in the south of Tibet, surrounded by the Himalayas, Yarlung Zangbo River and its main tributaries Nianchu River, with an altitude from 3800 meters to 6646 meters, which is a plateau temperate semi-arid monsoon climate zone. The annual sunshine is about 3248 hours, with precipitation 420 mm annually. Because of the climate and maintenance, there are few varieties of flowers in Xigaze region, while it’s residents like flowers so much, therefore consider making a flower bed in the west side of the main entrance area, focusing on all kinds of flowers.
3. Amazing tree & grass area
There are abundant plant resources in the park, and there are many large trees such as Jingyang(京杨) and Zuoxuanliu(左旋柳), etc. Meanwhile some solitary trees have full canopy, beautiful tree shape and peculiar form. But the layout is less reasonable, the distribution of the trees is not so uniform, so through the plant arrangement, as well as the terrain transformation in the northern tree-concentrated place, then can form a tree & grassland slope landscape.
4. Barbecue, picnic, snack area
People in Shigatse city will hold a week-long grand tour in the garden starting on June 1 every year, called “Linka Festival”. At the time, there are a lot of tents, the flow of people is like the tide, they are singing and dancing, lively and extraordinary. So taking advantage of the existing building base in the area, meanwhile considering the traditional customs of Tibetan ethnic group, we can set up barbecue, picnic, snack and leisure area in order to provide them with a place for outdoor activities.
Attraction Transportation:
We can take a shuttle bus from Shigatse to Rinbung County, then transfer a local mini bus to Dongfeng Linka.
