Thonmi Sambhota’s Former Residence in Nyemo County, Lhasa
The former residence of Thonmi Sambhota is located at Tunda Village(吞达村) of Tunba Town(吞巴乡) in Nyemo County, Lhasa, Tibet autonomous region. It is about 20 kilometers from Nyemo County and about 110 kilometers from Lhasa. It is 2.7 km from 318 national road. It is a thematic memorial place to commemorate Thonmi Sambhota’s creation of Tibetan language, the dissemination of Tibetan culture, as well as the invention and innovation of Tibetan incense.
About Thonmi Sambhota’s Former Residence
It was built about 1300 years ago in the era of Tubo songtsan(松赞干布), which was mainly built on the civil structure(土木结构) with 2 floors, covering an area of about 600 square meters. Internal facilities were suffered varying degrees of damage of Thonmi Sambhota’s Former Residence with ages, only several incomplete but with extremely historical value murals remained within the former residence.
