Railway Stations in Tibet
Within the Golmud to Lhasa section of the Qinghai-Tibet line there are 45 stations, 38 of which are unstaffed and monitored by the control center in Xining or Lhasa. Thirteen more stations are planned. There are five main passenger train stops in the Tibet Autonomous Region: Amdo Railway Station, Nagqu Railway Station, Damxung Railway Station, Lhasa Railway Station and Shigatse Railway Station. 1. Amdo Railway Station
Amdo railway station is the Qinghai–Tibet Railway station in Amdo County, Nagchu, Tibet, China. The station is located 1,524 km (947 mi) from Xining Railway Station.
With an elevation of 4,702 m, Amdo station is believed to be one of the highest staffed railway station in the world. Serving the township of Pana, seat of Amdo County, the station is also one of the highest railway station with a regular passenger service schedule: two passenger services are available at this station each day. 2. Nagqu Railway Station
Built at 4513 meters above sea level, Nagqu railway station is the second most important train station in Tibet. It is 8 km south of Nagchu town, 322 km from Lhasa railway station and 820 km away from Golmud train station.
As a major railway station in Tibet, this station is furnished with unique Tibetan decoration. Nagqu is famous for Nagqu horse racing festival in August, if you’re interested, you can get off the train at Nagqu railway station to enjoy the festival celebration and watch horse racing competition. 3. Damxung Railway Station
Damxung railway station is on the Qinghai–Tibet railway line in Damxung County, Lhasa, Tibet. Standing in the east of Qinghai-Tibet highway, its main body is white building. Behind the station is a stretch of verdant grassland and rolling grey-green mountains. Dangxiong railway station is 4200 meters above sea level, with a total length of 1520 meters designed. 4. Lhasa Railway Station
Lhasa Railway Station lies in Niu New Area, Doilungdêqên District, 1 kilometer to the south of the Lhasa River and 5 kilometers south west of the Potala Palace. It is the terminal station of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, and also the largest railway station on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway
The Liuwu Bridge links central Lhasa to Lhasa railway station and the newly developed Niu New Area on the south bank of the Lhasa River. 5. Shigatse Railway Station
Shigatse Railway Station, located 253 km away from Lhasa Railway Station, is the final station of Lhasa-Shigatse Railway. It was officially opened for operation on August 15, 2014 with the opening of Lhasa-Shigatse Railway. The station is provided with 6 tracks for arrival and departure of trains, served by 3 platforms. 6. Nyingchi Railway Station
The Sichuan-Tibet Railway will be the second railway into southwest China’s. The section between Lhasa and Nyingchi is under construction. The total length of Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway is 430 kilometers which is designed for a speed of 160 kilometers an hour. Nyingchi railway station is the terminal of the line.
