The Beijing-Lhasa train Z21 was launched in July, 2006, this great railway between Beijing and Lhasa takes passengers from northern China to the furthest southwestern Tibet plateau for their lifetime Tibet tour. The Beijing to Lhasa train is served as one of the 3 initial railway routes of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, with other two lines moving from Chengdu to Lhasa and Xining to Lhasa. The Beijing-Lhasa train stretches 3753 km all the way to Lhasa, crossing 8 provinces with 1110 km running on the world’s highest Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The total train ride is about 44 hours from Beijing to Lhasa, the return train from Lhasa to Beijing is called Z22.

- Booking an original train is easier than booking a passing-by train. You can book a train ticket 10 days in advance at most.
- Generally, the seats on the train in China have two types including soft seat and hard seat. Also, there are two kinds of sleeper seats on China’s trains, which are hard berth and soft berth. Hard berth is divided into upper berth, middle berth and lower hard sleeper (lower berth is the best); while soft berth is divided into upper berth and lower berth (lower berth is better).
- In China, taking a train is a comparative cheaper way to cut down the travel cost. While correspondingly, the comfortable level is lower than by air.
- For luggages, passengers need to take them by themselves and keep an eye on them during transporting without luggage-checking service on the train.
- Do not bring too many luggages during the peak seasons if necessary.
