About Menlongze Peak

Located in Tingri County and known as the “Qiao Geru peak”, Menlongze Peak is located in the eastern section of the Himalayas Mountains of Tibet with an altitude of 7,175 meters above sea level. It is near Cho Oyu Peak, which is the sixth highest peak in the world. There are more than a dozen snow-capped peaks with an altitude of more than 6,000 meters above sea level. Covereing with snow and ice, the main peak is steep and conical, which it mainly consists of five ridges: northeast ridge, southeast ridge, southern ridge, southwest ridge and northwest ridge. Many modern glaciers have been developed in the valley, which the main glacier in the south is Kombukusang Glacier(孔布热布桑冰川). Two kilometers away from the glacier in the west is Menlongze Peak with elevation of 7,021 meters.

Climate

Due to the influence of the warm humid air in the Indian Ocean, the climate in the Menlongze Peak is humid, rainy and snowy. In the west, the valley is rich in primitive forests ,flora and fauna. But ice and avalanches are frequent and thundering, leaving the unremarkable mountain peak still unattended. Only the 2 peaks of Menlongze Peak were conquered by Bownington and other two men of the British mountaineering team until May 1988. The region has a lot of snow from November to March, which it is very difficult to get into the mountains. It is full of heavy rain in June to July. Usually the best time to visit Menlongze Peak is between September and October, or April to May.

Attraction Transportation:

The highway traffic system is perfect; visitors can choose self-driving tour to Menlongze Peak in Tingri County for more than 100 km including climbing Fula Mountain of more than 4,700 meters above sea level. Tourist can also transfer to long-distance bus at Shigatse Passenger Transport Center to Tingri County. In the meanwhile,  you can take the chartered bus to reach Rongxia Valley. After more than 40 kilometers’ driving south of the highway, Tourists can reach the Bangsi River, then tourists only can get to Basi Camp on foot for climbing Fula Mountain of more than 4,700 meters above sea level. At last, tourists can get to Menlongze Peak for more than walking of 24 km.
