Going to Tibet by train is a good choice. To get to Tibet, it is cheaper to travel by train than by plane, and safer than by road and car. At the same time, trains into Tibet help the body gradually adapt to the rising altitude.
Trains to Tibet
Over 10 million tourists have hopped on Tibet trains on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway to visit the Holy Land, Tibet. Normal speed trains serve in Tibet, which has already been open to traffic since July 1, 2006. Now tourists can take direct trains to Tibet from Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, Chongqing, Xining, Lanzhou, Chengdu, etc. Lhasa Railway Station is about 8 kilometers southwest of Lhasa downtown, for 15-20 minutes’ drive. It will take about 20-40 hours getting into Tibet by train. Most tourists are attracted by the scenic wonders along the 1,956 kilometers railway on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is the longest and highest railway built atop a plateau, which is China’s first railroad to Tibet. However, in the peak season from May to October, it is difficult to get train tickets to Tibet due to the great demand.
